I have to say I am getting so excited for the weekend because it is the first of a series of Free Summer concerts.  Saturday night Rusted Root will be performing at the Howelsen Hill Amphitheater with doors opening at 5pm.  There will be food vendors along with activities for the kids!  The free summer concerts are so much fun because of the outdoor venue and the great tunes plus it is a chance to catch up with friends you don’t see all the time.  For more information on the Steamboat Springs Free Summer Concert Series click here.

The weather has been spectacular.  It is officially shorts and t-shirt weather and I am enjoying greatly!  Today I went for a run along the Yampa River Core Trail and saw the tubers enjoying the river currents.  One of my favorite things to do in the summer is float the Yampa River.  Overall I would say the Yampa River is a lazy river but there are a couple of rapids that will get your heart pounding.  If you don’t own a tube there are a couple local retailers that rent them out for the day.  I would say this is a not to miss low or no cost activity in Steamboat!

This past weekend, Ford Mustangs from all around the Rocky Mountain region accented on Steamboat Springs to meet, mingle and most importantly show off these classic American muscle cars. Town was hopping with folk in town checking out the vibrant colors of the mustangs and chatting with their owners, stopping by the Farmers Market on 6th street and the endless fun with the Free Family Fun Festival up at the Steamboat Ski Resort.

As a beginner in the world of mountain biking, I jumped at the chance to participate in a mountain bike clinic to learn more about the sport, the etiquette and meeting people who were also interested in improving their skills in the saddle. The Young Professional Network of Steamboat Springs (YPN) is a new organization in town aimed at cultivating a community of young professionals by providing an outlet to build partnerships through professional development, philanthropic involvement and cultural, recreational and social opportunities and they held a mountain biking clinic last night at Howelsen Hill.

The ride was so much fun and I learned so much too. It was great to ride with others who were interested in learning more too. After a good ride and some helpful instruction, some of us headed to the Old Town Pub for a beer and dinner. This is why I love living in the mountains.

With a fresh start to the week, I am hoping that the sun dominates the weather patterns here in Steamboat Springs this week taking the place of the rain showers that we have been seeing. The June afternoon rain showers have been absolutely wonderful, especially not that the Yampa Valley is a rich emerald green color. This week is full of great events and activities including the 21st Annual Rocky Mountain Mustang Roundup, the Free Family Fun Fest, the opening weekend of the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series and the gondola at the Steamboat Ski Area opening for the summer season. It is hard to believe that it is June already, but all the summer time indicators are here and in full swing. There is only a little bit of snow on the top of Storm Mountain, the highest point of the Steamboat Ski Area with the majority if the mountain now being green, green, green. After being on the road the past couple weekends at various graduations and camping trips, it was so nice to have a Steamboat Springs weekend. Among the fun activities this weekend, I swung by the 2nd Annual Home and Garden Expo (great job Meagan), started a vegetable garden with my boyfriend and spent some time at the Bud Werner Memorial Library. Not to mention a ton of biking around town on the Yampa River Core Trail too. June is here and summer is officially upon us. I couldn’t be happier!

A new season, a new routine…right? With the spectacular mornings of springs and summer here in Steamboat Springs, I decided to try out a early morning yoga class to start my day off on the right foot. This morning’s class was not only a great experience; it was a great work out too. While a 7:00 a.m. start is earlier than my normal morning routine, waking up with views of the Yampa River, a physical challenge and beautiful scenery was just what I needed to start the day in the right state of mind. This afternoon I will head out on my road bike to conquer this valley by cycle. It is amazing all the activities and natural beauty we have right here in Steamboat Springs.

Memorial Day Weekend really does kick off the beginning of summer and even with some raining weather here in Steamboat Springs, the weekend’s activities did not disappoint. With two visits to the Strawberry Park Hot Springs, an overnight trip to Denver to say good-bye to a friend, a hike into town and a Memorial day BBQ to top it all off, the weekend was full of outdoor excursions. The best part of a three day weekend too is how rested you are for the start of the week, hence why I love Memorial Day Weekend.

The wheels are turning; I just got back from the Economic Summit where I was able to attend some awesome presentations.  I was able to attend the breakfast speaker Daniel Levine, who talked about turning economic challenges into profitable opportunities.  I also attend two breakout sessions with Jay O’Hare about Web 3.0, The New Way to Communicate.  I have to say I was very impressed with all of the speakers and their thought provoking presentations.  The wheels are officially turning, how to turn these challenges into opportunities?  I have some ideas up my sleeve, stay tuned for more!

Spring in Steamboat Springs is such an amazing season. On a run down the Yampa River Core Trail today during lunch, the Yampa River was moving at an alarmingly swift pace, the birds were out signing and the aspen trees have really popped, revealing beautiful spring green buds. This time of year is so dramatic because everything around town is changing and blooming so drastically and so quickly. With the outdoor beauty budding and the warm temperatures, Steamboat in the Springtime is the place to be.
