Coming tomorrow night live in Steamboat Springs at Howelsen Hill is one of my favorite bands to see live!  I will not keep you in suspense but I will give you a few clue; they were here two summers ago, played up on the mountain and were a huge hit…  Michael Franti and Spearhead!!!  This is one of those bands that you can sit back and relax or dance your pants off.  Not only are you guaranteed great music, but this is a free event.  The show will start at 5pm with an opening band and Michael Franti and Spearhead to fallow.  There will be food vendors and kids activities at the concerts as well and just remember leave the alcohol and dogs at home.

This weekend is one of my favorite weekends.  It is one of the most colorful art filled weekends of the summer.  We have the 28th Annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo and 34th Annual Art in the Park.  If you have not experienced either of these events then this is the perfect reason to plan your trip to Steamboat.  This year we have 38 balloons that will launch into the air, paint the sky and enjoy some healthy competition.  This is a free event and takes place early in the morning with the festivities beginning at 7am on both Saturday and Sunday.  Next make your way West Lincoln Park for the 34th Annual Art in the Park.  Here you will find an array of art sure to please the visual senses.  For more information on these events and more visit www.steamboatsummer.com

You know it has been a great weekend when sitting at your desk on a Monday morning your arms are sore, you have a tan and you are still a bit tired from all the activity that comes with a great three day weekend. Steamboat Springs was full of energy, excitement and a lot of celebration this weekend with our annual First National Bank of Steamboat Springs Fourth of July Parade on Friday as well as the annual Saddleback Ranch Cattle Drive on Sunday. These two big events are a lot of fun and it was great to see hundreds of people turning out to see the summertime action. In addition to the scheduled events this weekend I was able to hang out on Stagecoach Reservoir with some friends most of the day Saturday and do a lot of wakeboarding as well as a great bike ride yesterday up Spring Creek Trail starting up on Buffalo Pass near Dry Creek Lake. As the weekend readily approaches and we are all getting excited for fireworks, barbeques and lots of sun, it is fun to reflect on this town and why it is such a wonderful place to live, work and play. Steamboat Springs gets highlighted for our great special events, numerous outdoor activities and charming Western town. It is one of the best places to be in the summer. I love this town for these reasons and for many others, a few of which have caught my attention in the past few days. For example, driving to work this morning on US Highway 40, traffic was moving at a slower pace than usual. I really didn’t think twice about it until I saw a tractor chugging down Lincoln Avenue at 15 miles an hour. It was one of those moments where you smile and say to yourself, “This is why I love living here; only in Steamboat Springs.”

Today is July 1st!  Do you know what that means?  It is official BBQ season!!  I have already tested out the grill with some fantastic ribs, blue cheese burgers and this week the shish kabobs and grilled corn.  The BBQ is one of those amazing pieces of equipment that you can cook anything.  The smells are so wonderful and the company is great!    One of my favorite days to BBQ is just around the corner, 4th of July always consists of juicy burgers, pasta salads, watermelon and some strawberry shortcake to top it all off.  If you have any suggestion I would love to hear them, please share your favorite summer time BBQ recipe with me!

If time flies when you are having fun then I have been having a lot of fun this summer in Steamboat Springs. It is hard to believe that tomorrow will be July 1st and that this Friday it the Fourth of July. Fourth of July in Steamboat is full of great traditions like our great small town parade, fireworks at Howelsen Hill, the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series featuring a special rodeo to celebrate the fourth and even a cattle drive on Sunday, July 6th. It is going to be a great weekend up here in the ‘Boat. It is one of the best weekends of the summer.

This Friday at 5:30pm is the start of the FREE summer concert series at Howelsen Hill.  This week Drew Emmit will be playing his Bluegrass sounding music filling the hills with tunes.  Howelsen Hill provides the perfect venue for all the locals and tourists to convene and enjoy great music.  This is the one time of year that you will see everyone that you haven’t seen since the end of the ski season.  The free summer concert series not only provides great entertainment but is also the time to catch up with old friends, make new ones, dance to music and have good old fashioned fun!  Don’t forget your picnic blanket, chair and dancing shoes and we will see you Friday!

When you get to show someone around this great mountain town, it is then that you really begin to understand how great it is to live here and be apart of the Steamboat Springs experience. This weekend my mom came for a weekend visit to Steamboat Springs, all the way from Seattle, Washington to experience this land that I cannot stop raving about. Lucky for me the weather was perfect, the activities were plentiful and I didn’t want the weekend to end. With a trip to Fish Creek Falls, a ride up the gondola, a ride on the bike trail and lots of shopping downtown it was a weekend to remember.
